"Thank you so much for the terrific job you did on the painting of
my old horse Bandy. It looks just like him - I can't believe how you could
"capture" his likeness from a single photo. The painting means the
world to me - he was my favorite and best horse ever (though he wasn't
exceptionally pretty). Thank you so much - I really appreciate all your
work and talent."

"Van took a simple photograph and with a few brushstrokes created
an image in paint that captured not only the likeness of our dear Arty,
but his very spirit as well. The quality of the painting is superb. The painting
perfectly memorializes the end of a great hunt and a dogs satisfaction as
he rests with the prize of his last point, California valley quail. We especially
appreciate Van's dedication to his craft and his sensitivity to our loss."

"While searching for an artist to do a portrait of my dog I visited many
artists' websites. I just never found what I was looking for, nothing quite
grabbed my attention. The moment I clicked on Van's site I was instantly
drawn to the quality of his paintings and his ability to capture the essence
of the animal he is painting. His attention to detail and ability of bringing life
to his subject is amazing. We breed and train dogs and everyone who has
seen the painting immediately knows which dog the portrait is of as it captures
him perfectly. I have had many many compliments on the painting and everyone
is really impressed by Van's work. Van is very professional to deal with. He
emailed or phoned me several times with updates and made sure that when
the painting was shipped that it was packaged very well so as to arrive in
perfect condition. I would highly recommend Van and his superior paintings
to anyone looking for that special portrail of their animal."

"Mr. Johnson saw a picture of my dog 4x Champion 2x RU-Champion Hickory
Dickory Dot ( Dottie ) in Quail Unlimited Magazine, she was featured in a Purina Dog
Food advertisement. He told me he was impressed by her eyes and he wanted to
paint her portrait. After going through the magazine and Purina he finally got hold of
me and asked if he could do the painting of Dottie. I told him that I would let him paint
Dottie and if I liked the painting I would buy it from him ( I already had several other
paintings of Dottie ). Not only did I like the painting I loved it. Dottie looked so lifelike
that she looked as though she was going to jump out of the painting at any moment. It
is a masterpiece. Anyone who has seen it and most are dog people who have seen many
paintings of dogs, theirs included, say it is the best painting of a dog they have ever seen
and they have seen the best, including Donaldson and Young. I can only say that if I
ever have another dog worthy of having a painting done of them, I would not go to anyone
but Mr. Johnson. He has an extraordinary talent. Now that Dottie is gone it brings me
great sadness and great joy at the same time. Van thank you for the outstanding painting
and all the joy it brings me and my family."
