Years ago I had someone do an oil painting of my dog Luke, an English
pointer. It was a nice painting, but it just didn't look like my dog. My wife
suggested I learn to paint him myself. So I looked for an art teacher and
found one in Doug Prine, a western art specialist and a wonderful teacher.
I took art lessons from him and it opened up a whole new world in oil
painting and gave me a new passion in life.
I grew up in Elbert, Texas, which is a small farming community in
Throckmorton County. It was there I developed a love for hunting and
fishing. Now when I go in the country, I see it in a whole new light.
Now I see colors, light, composition, shadows, and the possibility of an oil painting. I have quail hunted with bird dogs all my life and now it is my
passion to bring them to life on canvas.
I have done commissions of sporting dogs and other subjects for years
now and I am constantly striving to improve as an artist. When you do a
painting for someone, it is a big responsibility because they are putting there
trust in you to bring that photo to life for them. There is no greater reward
than to see the look of joy on someone's face when you give them their
painting and know they are going to have that painting for the rest of their
life.
